Konor went to dr cartwright today for yearly ck up. Had his blood pressure tken for the 1st time. He said they were squeezing his muscles!
They make us do this 'denver' test ea visit. It is sopossed to be more accurate than the ones done in the 70's.
This time dr stayed in room while we went thru every number. Some were just too easy, I thought a joke. They showed pics in blk/wh of animals and had to ask him what they were..ok so he called the horse a cow, but it had mishappen spots, so dr didn't count that one.
Then was asked to broad jump over the piece of paper on the floor. He did, perfectly.
color blocks on paper, name the colors,, oh he did, and then did again most in espanol
had to ask him to look at animal pix and say: which one flies? and he pointed to the bird. which one barks, and points to dog..etc and so on, all correctly.
had to stack letter blocks at least 8 high, he does ten as that is all there is. During this, dr asks if him questions, "do you like apples konor?"
Konor grabs the block w/the A on it and says, A=apple...and then instead of listening, goes onto other letters, M=mommy, D=daddy, Z= zeeah(zilya)
and a few others... dr was getting impressed.
Said no way he just learned this at school.
nope...
but we work w/phonics a lot at home.
OK, onto more physical stuff..cos u can't fake that...
stand on one foot, norm is 3sec for his age...he got 5sec, other foot , 8sec..
ok, what else? umm, oh, he had to draw a straight line, again, did this at 2..fine..(don't see z doing it tho at two, but got a few mos) so, he did once, prettydarn straight, next he started to draw a K as we practice that at home. and so on.. dr impressed
I know there was some counting too, and he did to 12, but that was all there was and I know he can count to 20. And then w/help by my starting, he can also count to 10 in spanish. :)
Anyway, dr said he hasn't had a child like him come across him in a few yrs and said he is like an early 4yo, perhaps older.
Which explains why he never hangs w/kids his age.
That he has always been ahead, but some kids are, until age 3, they usually level out. But Konor seems extrodinary.
He really likes that I put him in Montessori as he did his kids at same place. And feels this will be great for him, as there he can do things w/older kids and work at his level, not at a level other schools say he should be at .
this, however might be an issue when he starts public school and has to skip a grade or two.
He said he'd want to have his IQ tested nxt yr or at age 5, just to get a hold on what we're looking at here, but feels kc is deff something special.
funny cos I see him as normal, cos i'm w/him 24/7.. but when talked to someone w/a 4yo who doesn't do the same things... and I know two lil girls now..that kc likes.. no wonder he hangs w/them and not the ones his age!
However, Konor is still 3, so I am to expect frustration more b/c he is smart, but still 3.
I work w/him w/lots of hugs!He is such the helper, and wants to do things himself right now.
As for health, Konor is in the 50th%tile for weight, and in the 25th%-tile for height.. really thought he'd be in the 5th or lower, but I guess he is still in the 'norm' But, luckily, no booster seat yet.
I did express my concern about his nightly coughing and wheezing and after running about. He has had some allergy issue in the past. and said his breathing is a bit off and a tad harsh. I mention that older sis, rach has asthma/allergies..
He feels that is same issue for konor.
Put him on singulair daily to see if that helps.
Oh, what a 'nerd' I am raising huh? glasses, asthma, smart,short...oh my..!
I luv my KC sunshine son!
anyways, he put him on singulair once a day and we shall see if that helps.
yeah, poor kid has a long road ahead of him.. hopefully daddy will be around long enuff to tell him how to deal. Sux..smart is great, but he can't play sports like all the dumb jocks out there that seem to matter to pretty girls when they are teens and older.
well, i'm just the mummy.. and I'll be proud of my smart kid, no matter what!

Today was Konor's 2nd day. He was real excited when we pulled up saying, "look, look! That's my school!" Some of the kids already know his name and said, "Hi Konor!" as soon as we walked in, as do the teachers, as always. I can't wait till I get to know the names of his friends in his class :)
There is a new boy, Seymour that started a wk b4 him that cried out for mom today. He wasn't there yesterday tho. So, this kinda got konor whimpering. They said if it continues, they may move one of them, seperate them.
The older girls adore Zily when we come to pick him up, it is adorable. They want to play with her while I talk to the teachers and konor and get his stuff from his bin and coat, etc.
Zily wants to stay sooo bad. Oh well, she has till next fall, esp if she is mostly potty trained by then, but we will see. I may end up waiting till after the fall break, cos the 'fall' is really early august.
Oh, they told me Konor is a real good sweet kid. And that he asked real polite to use the bathroom, and actually went, tho still having probs pulling up his pants, lol.
I think the school is helping with that, cos he hasn't had an accident at home in two days. And he had a nap the other day and was in underpants, not pull ups and didn't pee in his bed, but did wake and had to go. Wow, he is growing up.
Tho this afternoon was heck. He threw major fits left and right. One was wanting to go to school to play with 'something' that we don't have at home. Another was missing daddy and wanting him to come home. The others were more typical stuff, fighting with his sister, etc.
Spent a lot of time in time out tonite and ended up in bed asleep at 5:30pm.
Zily refused a nap today and giving me probs about staying in her crib again. She did this a few months ago. Konor was moved to toddler bed at 19mos when daddy was on travel. She is 22mos, and daddy is away. I don't know if I'm ready! We tried the toddler bed for nap, but she didn't stay. So I did and said the same things I did w/konor, that worked..but..ugh, here we go again.
Anyway, today was full of many emotions. I'm bored, lonely, proud of my kids, but said how fast they are changing. I miss Todd so much it is actually beginning to hurt.
oh well...we live, and that is always a good thing.Comments:Add a comment:

Well, my sunshine son, KC is @ school!!!
I went to bed early, set his alarm, my alarm and we woke late, 8am. Figures, of all days!! Konor had a nap yesterday, which is unusual for him, so at bedtime, he didn't want to sleep. Finally did around 8:30. He still has a dang cough. So gave him medicine at bedtime, 11pm and this am.
He seemed excited to be there, walked in saying "HI!" and waving! :)
However, Zily kept asking all the way back home, "Where'd karns go?" That is how she says his name.
Well, will update later to see how it went. Right now gotta get zily dressed and go to grocery store, perhaps clean my messy kitchen.Comments:Add a comment:

Oh they do it to bug momma...now.
As they'd ask a second he'd go dwn the steps to get something...

and in the van, when following daddy...
where'd daddy go?
He was always right there!
RIGHT THERE, in view or voice...
but now?
no, he isn't dead
yet
but, where'd daddy go?
I can only say so much
cos I'm not allowed much
And more they wouldn't understand.
where'd daddy go?
"you sad?"
son asks...
"me sad" he replies
"you want hug" he tells me, and he
does.
You ok mommy, he tells me..
I tuck him into bed...
Daddy be back?
"yes baby...daddy be back, we hope!"
I shed a tear...

Well, Todd is gone. :(
Off to dangerous waters in a war threat zone. We won't have much contact for the next four weeks.
Konor said he is going to have a sad birthday :( Poor guy!
On another note, we visited Konors school today. He really enjoyed it and didn't want to leave. I hope he does ok when I leave him there tho. Gonna be emotional for me too.
I gotta turn in papers/shot record, etc on Friday. He will be starting Tuesday the 16th because they are closed on the 15th for martin luther king day. And tuesdays are less crowded, a better day for him to go.
I switched his gymnastics to Tuesdays, however, didn't know about next week. Now I need to call back and see if he can go next monday, like usual.
Zilya is on the waiting list for April. We'll see how it goes w/me taking them both, otherwise I will be bringing her on Mondays or Wednesdays while Konor is in school.
I closed my SAHM group down today as well :(
Just too much junk going on w/certain people, and those I know, I'll keep in touch with. I still belong to another group that is for preschool aged children. I like it better anyway b/c kids are all my kids ages, no babies.
Well, I guess I will keep updated on how the school goes, and how we're managing w/o daddy here for so long.

My baby is going to school!
Well, I only had a phone interview this am, and Tuesday we are going on the tour. They have 2 openings, one this month, another not till April, so I decided to jump on the band wagon. Konor will be starting on the 15th. 3 1/2 days a week. I really like the way of montessori teachings. I still don't know if I will end up homeschooling or not in the future. But right now I think this is best for konor and myself. I have plenty of educational material at home that I can still work with him. It is just difficult for me to be structured and zily gets in the way and she doesn't hold attention well enough to be distracted while I work with him. Konor seems ahead in a lot of things to me, so of course I want some validation. So, I think the school could do that, and help him better. I also think he needs someone else to work with him with discipline, sharing, etc.
I am pulling him from gymnastics for now I think, and may enter him in martial arts and see how that goes. I plan to put zily in gymnastics in april, she already knows some of the moves, and has some leotards ;)
And of course he'll be starting violin lessons in Feb hopefully a well. He is the one that wanted the violin, and every nite at bed asks when he can play it.
He is also excited by going to school as well, and couldn't wait to tell big sister Rachel.
I told him he had to wait till next week to see the inside, and he said, "no mum,not nxt week, today!"
As for when he reaches school age, we will of course reavaluate our plans.. Homeschool, private or public school. It is hard to commit to something years ahead, esp when we never know if we'll even still be living in the same city, much less state.
Here is where Konor will be attending:
